Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the
harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the
fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps
receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he
who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying
is true: 'One sows and another reaps'. I sent you to reap that for
which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered
into their labors.
John 4:35-37 NKJV

Southgate Church History
The mother church of Southgate Berean, The Berean Fellowship of the Church of Toledo,
had in its vision statement the goal of planting a new church years before Southgate
began. As Berean Fellowship's new facility (completion 1988) began to reach its
capacity, a Planting Committee was formed to set guidelines for developing a new
church. Maumee/South Toledo was the targeted area. A small group of six couples
from the target area began to meet and pray in August 1995. They became known as
the B.F.II Core Leadership Group and were officially approved by the Berean Fellowship
Elders.
A questionnaire was given to the Berean Fellowship congregation asking who would
be willing to help start the new church. The Elders urged all who were willing to
become charter members to agree to the following:
Sign a two year commitment to stay with the new work.
Be willing to be appointed to a public ministry.
Be a part of a small group or a mid-week ministry.
In April 1996 those committed to the new work began meeting upstairs for worship
at the Berean Fellowship during the first hour. May 5, 1996, was the first Sunday
service at Gateway Middle School in Maumee, OH. Fifty adults with forty children
agreed to leave the Berean Fellowship to commit to the start of the new church,
named Southgate Berean Church. The church stayed under the leadership of the Berean
Fellowship Elders until January 1, 1999, when Southgate was released form the Berean
Fellowship as an independent sister church. On January 10, 1999, Southgate was officially
affiliated (and then accredited on February 3, 2002) with the Christian and Missionary
Alliance in a public service.
In June of 2004, Southgate purchased the building at 1217 Prouty Ave. as a new place
to worship the God of the Universe and minister to the people in the community.
